Safety
Every tool, plainly.
Safety features that are buried are safety features that do not exist. In Skein they are two taps from anywhere in the app, and here is exactly what each one does.
The tools
Block
Immediate, silent, reversible for 30 days. They are not told.
Report with evidence
Attach messages or photos. A person reads it within 24 hours.
Date check-in
Tell a trusted contact where you are going and when to worry.
Discreet mode
Neutral app icon and name, notifications without content.
Panic clear
Closes to a blank screen and needs your passcode to come back.
Delete, immediately
Not a 30-day cooling-off period. Gone means gone.
Verification: what we keep and what we delete
Everyone on Skein has completed a liveness capture, which confirms a real person is holding the phone and compares against the photos on their profile. The capture, and anything derived from it, is deleted as soon as that comparison finishes. What survives is a boolean, a timestamp and a confidence score.
No face template is stored, nothing is shared with another user, and nothing is used to identify anyone anywhere else. Verification is not a background check, and we do not describe it as one.
How reports are handled
A report captures its evidence at the moment you file it — up to the last 50 messages in the Thread and a snapshot of the reported profile. That is deliberate: someone deleting their account or rewriting their profile afterwards cannot erase what you reported.
A person reads every report. Our target is a decision within 24 hours, and faster where a threat or a minor is involved. The four outcomes are dismiss, warn, suspend and ban. Reports outlive the account they are about.
Blocking is separate and does not wait for us. It takes effect immediately, the other person is not told, and you can undo it for 30 days in the Safety Center.
Reporting someone off-app
If someone you met on Skein contacts you elsewhere, or you deleted the Thread before reporting, write to support@skein.me with whatever you have — a screenshot, a display name, roughly when it happened. We can act on an account without the in-app evidence bundle; it is just slower.
