Your account

Deleting your account

You can delete your Skein account yourself, at any time, without asking anyone. It starts immediately — there is no 30-day cooling-off period and nothing is kept “in case you come back”.

From inside the app

  1. Open Skein and go to the You tab.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Choose Delete account.
  4. Confirm. The purge begins as soon as you do.

If you cannot get into the app

Lost the phone, forgot which email you used, or already deleted the app — write to support@skein.me from the email address on the account, with the subject Delete my account.

We reply within 3 working days and complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming it is your account. We ask you to write from the account's own address because we have no other way to tell that a deletion request is really from you — and a request we cannot verify is a way for someone else to delete your account.

What is deleted

All of it. The purge removes, across every system that holds them:

  • Your profile: name, age, pronouns, gender identity, orientation, relationship structure, interests, prompt answers and bio.
  • Every photo you uploaded, and your voice intro.
  • Your verification record.
  • Your messages, and the Threads they were in.
  • Your location cell and the city on your account.
  • Your date check-ins, including the trusted-contact phone number and any plan text.
  • Your Gathering tickets and RSVPs.
  • Your sign-in account itself, and your subscription record with our payments provider.
  • Your push notification registrations.

This is a real cascade across each store, not a flag that hides you. Once it has run, there is nothing to restore and we cannot bring the account back.

What is kept, and why

Two things survive deletion, and both are deliberate.

  • Reports made about you, with the evidence captured when they were filed. Otherwise deleting an account would be a way to erase what you did to someone else, and to come back with a new one.
  • Records we are required to keep — for example a transaction record where tax or payment law requires it. These are financial records, not your profile, and they do not identify you to anyone using Skein.

Nothing else is retained. There is no shadow copy, no analytics profile (the app has no third-party analytics at all), and nothing is passed to a data broker.

Your subscription

If you subscribe to Skein+, cancel it in the App Store or Google Play before deleting, or it may keep billing — those subscriptions are managed by Apple and Google, and deleting your Skein account does not cancel a store subscription. Spools have no cash value and are not refunded.
